Allergen & Dietary Information

Last updated: May 2026

At Karan-An, we prepare authentic Filipino and Asian cuisine using a wide variety of fresh ingredients, spices, and sauces. We understand that dietary requirements and allergies are important, and we are committed to helping you make informed choices.

Important Notice

Our kitchen handles the following major allergens on a daily basis:

  • Gluten (wheat, flour, soy sauce, noodles, breadcrumbs)

  • Shellfish and crustaceans (prawns, crab, mussels, squid)

  • Fish and fish sauce

  • Eggs

  • Peanuts and tree nuts

  • Soy and soy-based products

  • Sesame

  • Dairy (cheese, cream, butter)

As we are a busy kitchen environment, we cannot guarantee that any dish is completely free from allergen cross-contamination. If you have a severe allergy, please advise your server before ordering and we will discuss the options available to you.

Gluten-Free Options

Dishes marked with GF on our menu are prepared without gluten-containing ingredients. However, as our kitchen is not a certified gluten-free facility, cross-contact may occur. Please speak to your server if you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance.

Vegetarian & Vegan Options

We have a selection of vegetarian-friendly dishes on our menu. Please ask your server for guidance. Vegan options are limited due to the use of fish sauce, eggs, and oyster sauce in many of our traditional recipes, but we are happy to discuss modifications where possible.

Common Ingredients in Our Cuisine

Traditional Filipino and Asian cooking frequently includes the following ingredients. If you have sensitivities to any of these, please let us know:

  • Fish sauce and shrimp paste — used in many savoury dishes as a base flavouring

  • Soy sauce and oyster sauce — used in marinades, stir-fries, and sauces

  • Calamansi (Filipino citrus) — used in marinades and as a condiment

  • Vinegar — used in traditional dishes such as adobo and sinigang

  • Peanut sauce — served with satay and some noodle dishes

  • Chilli — used in varying degrees; please ask if you prefer a milder preparation
